UPA against interests of TN, Tamils: CPI
The Centre had made no attempt to implement the Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal's verdict, said D Pandian.

Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu unit of the CPI on Wednesday accused the UPA Government of acting against the interests of the state and Tamils by remaining as a mute spectator without attempting to resolve various issues concerning it such as the Mullaperiyar dam row with Kerala.

Be it Mullaperiyar dam row or Cauvery water-sharing dispute with Karnataka or the Sri Lankan Tamils issue, the UPA Government was functioning against the interests of Tamil Nadu, CPI state secretary D Pandian alleged.

The Centre had made no attempt to implement the Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal's verdict, which was in favour of Tamil Nadu, he said.

Accusing DMK of also being responsible for the deeds of Congress-led UPA Government being a partner in it, Pandian said it should not continue in the alliance which was "totally against the interests" of Tamil Nadu and Tamils.

On Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant impasse, he said it appeared the Centre, instead of allaying the fears of the people there, was just watching the fight between pro and anti KNPP agitators.

He said CPI's three-day state Conference would be held in Rajapalayam from February 17.
