Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik has asked the state Election Commission to inquire into the issue of missing names from the voters list in the ongoing municipal body elections.
He also asked the body to submit a report of the inquiry to him.
Speaking at a gathering in Kanpur on Monday, Naik said, “Election Commission has been asked to investigate into the complaints. If any kind of embezzlement is found then legal action will be taken against those who are responsible."
Naik further said that such complaints were also received in Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha polls, but could not be proved then. He asked the state election commissioner on Sunday to investigate every complaint received in the matter and provide him a copy of the investigation report.
Apart from Naik, former chief minister of the state, Akhilesh Yadav, has also expressed concern about the missing names from the voters’ list. He took to twitter on Monday, saying the issued need to be addressed as faith in the electoral process is the biggest need of democracy.

The national president of Samajwadi Party had also tweeted about the issue on Sunday.

Meanwhile, on Monday, Lucknow District Magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma, suspended three booth level officers after the several names were missing from the voter list during the municipal elections. The action was taken after the state Election Commission questioned DM over the complaints and had him order a probe into the matter.
