New Delhi: With the formation of the 29th state of Indian Union just a signature away, question remains as of how the Assembly elections in united Andhra Pradesh and Telangana would take place.
According to the Election Commission, the decision would depend on when the state gets divided officially. If the Centre bifurcates the state within a month's time, elections for the Andhra and Telangana assemblies would take place simultaneously with the Lok Sabha polls. If the Centre delays the division, elections will be delayed.
The Centre has not yet fixed a date for the state's division. Once the date is finalised, the Ministry of Home Affairs will communicate the same to EC and seek elections in both the state.
The Congress leadership has not yet taken a final call on the successor of Kiran Kumar Reddy, who resigned as Andhra Pradesh chief minister, as it was preoccupied with the developments relating to the Telangana Bill in Parliament.
