Lucknow: In a surprising move that is seen as the first signs of bonhomie between the Congress and the Samajwadi Party before the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, the latter has sacked a party worker who showed black flags to Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday in Aligarh.
The Samajwadi Party suspended its Aligarh unit General Secretary Dinesh Yadav for showing black flags and blocking the convoy of Congress General Secretary and Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi.
Dinesh Yadav had organised a black flag demonstration against Rahul Gandhi and also blocked his convoy in Aligarh on Tuesday. The Samajwady Party has also sent instructions to all its units and youth wings not to show black flags to Rahul Gandhi during his Uttar Pradesh tour.
Senior Superintendent of Police Satyendra Veer Singh said that about 50 to 60 Samajwadi Party workers tried to block Rahul Gandhi's cavalcade while he was proceeding towards Badaun after landing at Dhanipur airport in Aligarh. Singh said that 15 Samajwadi Party workers were detained as they tried to breach the security cordon of Rahul Gandhi, who is an SPG protectee.
Rahul began the second leg of his Uttar Pradesh campaign on Tuesday and is trying to revive his party in the Other Backward Castes-Muslim stronghold in central Uttar Pradesh, considered to be a Samajwadi Party bastion.
His five-day tour started from Badayun and will cover most parts of western and central Uttar Pradesh. Rahul will address public meetings in Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Farukkhabad, Kannauj and Auraiya districts. Rahul's tour would culminate at Akbarpur in Kanpur (rural) district on December 17.
