Sonia to visit Haryana, may meet rape victim's family

New Delhi: With the Congress government facing flak over the series of rape incidents in Haryana, party president Sonia Gandhi will visit Jind district on Tuesday where a teenaged Dalit girl immolated herself after being raped. According to sources, Sonia is likely to meet the family members of the victim, who belonged to Narwana area of the district.

The Haryana government had on Thursday formed a three-member committee at district level to investigate, monitor and ensure speedy prosecution of such crimes. Rattled by increasing number of rape cases in Haryana, DGP of the state Ranjiv Singh Dalal today directed SPs and SHOs to tour rural areas to take action against vagabonds.

The directive came in the wake of dozen cases of rape reported in the state within a month.
