New Delhi: The National Thermal Power Corporation has given an electricity supply suspension notice from February 11 to Delhi utility BSES Rajdhani.
On Friday, the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) had threatened to stop power supply to the BSES Yamuna, which caters to central and east Delhi. The regions could face up to 10 hours of power cuts daily if the Reliance Infra-backed company does not pay Rs 179.68 crore it owes to the NTPC.
A plea by the Delhi government to not stop the supply to the BSES was rejected by the central PSU.
At the same time, the Kejriwal government also warned the power distribution companies that their licences will be cancelled if they failed to provide uninterrupted power supply. The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party has threatened protests if electricity is cut.
The companies have now sought financial assistance from the Delhi government.
The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) on Friday had also hiked the power surcharge for the three distribution companies in the capital by 6 to 8 per cent.
The BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL), the BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) and the North Delhi Power Limited (NDPL) are the companies which cater to east and central Delhi, south Delhi and north Delhi respectively.
The DERC called it a routine quarterly review. "The review happens every quarter as per guidelines and the prevalent situation," it said. The Delhi government, however, argued that the DERC could have waited for the CAG audit to complete. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has sought an audit into the accounts of the three power companies alleging that they are fudged.
