Nawada: Two bitter rivals will almost come face to face on Wednesday when Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Bharatiya Janata Party Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi address rallies in the same Lok Sabha constituency. The battleground will be Nawada in southern Bihar.
While Nitish Kumar will campaign for Janata Dal United candidate Kaushal Yadav, Modi will address the rally to drum up support for BJP nominee Giriraj Singh. Nawada is located between Nitish Kumar's stronghold of Nalanda and Gaya where the BJP is ahead of its rivals.
The Bihar CM's rally is at Nawada's Nadriganj at 11 am and Modi is scheduled to deliver his address at 2:30 pm around 25 km away at ITI ground in Nawada city. Modi's rally also assumes significance as BJP candidate Giriraj Singh has not been too keen on contesting from Nawada as he was eyeing Begusarai, which has been given to Bhola Singh, who represented Nawada in the 15th Lok Sabha.
Modi's last rally in Bihar's Gaya had seen BJP supporters clash with police while Kumar had faced protests in Nalanda with stones and slippers being thrown at him a couple of days ago.
All eyes will be on the number of people attending the two rallies as a bigger show of strength will give that party the bragging rights. A massive rally will not only help the JDU and BJP to consolidate their respective vote banks in Nawada but will also have a cascading effect in nearby seats as it is the first time Kumar and Modi will take on each other almost directly.
