Many are discussing whether Parliament should have carried on with its work and sent a strong message to the terrorists.

New Delhi: On Wednesday, Parliament reacting to the tragedy unfolding just a kilometre away at the Delhi High Court by taking the day off. No discussions, no debates on how to plug the security gaps. All that Parliament witnessed was a short statement by Home Minister P Chidambaram admitting to a security lapse despite the Delhi police's improved capabilities.

But many are discussing whether Parliament should have carried on with its work and sent a strong message to the terrorists. It was left to the Twitterratti in Parliament to really point out whether our parliamentarians should be taking the day off?

"Parliament adjourns in solidarity w/bomb victims. Continuing w/nation's work cld hv sent stronger signal:refusal2b intimidated by terrorists," tweeted Shashi Tharoor.

"BJP wanted Parliament adjourned to show solidarity. We should have passed a resolution and let it run to show that India is resolute! Nobody's denying that we need to do more to fight terror, but taking a day off can't be a solution! That's all I'm saying," wrote Milind Deora.

But despite the overall condemnation for the blast, the focus of the Opposition was clearly the man leading the fight against terror - Home Minister P Chidambaram. Post 26/11, a terror free India was becoming a thing of the past.

The frequency of terror has been increasing: Pune - February 2010, Bangalore - April 2010, Benaras - December 2010, Mumbai - July 2011 and Delhi attacked thrice this year.

On its part the Home ministry is sticking to the often touted grouse that states don't cooperate be it in fighting Naxals or even setting up the security paraphernalia to help fight terror.

Unlike in the US, where anti-terror measures are in place, backed by adequate legislation, in India it's a familiar story. Despite being one of the countries worst hit by terror anywhere in the world, talks of setting up a National Counter-terrorism Center (NCTC), or Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS) or even a National Grid, it's remained just that. A lot of talk not backed by the collective will of our parliamentarians.

What's your reaction?
