Reeta Joshi of BJP has won Lucknow Cantonment constituency No. 175 of Uttar Pradesh legislative Assembly.
The main candidates from Lucknow Cantt were Yogesh Dixit (BSP), Dr. Reeta Joshi (BJP), Virendra Kumar Shukla (RLD), Aparna Yadav (SP), Kunwar Gaurav Upadhyay (SHS).
Lucknow cantt. is Brahmin dominated constituency. Congress turncoat Rita Bahuguna Joshi from Lucknow Cant who is pitted against Mulayam Singh Yadav's daughter-in-law Aparna. Ms Joshi had won the seat in the last election as a Congress candidate.
In the 2012 Assembly elections, the Congress defeated BJP by 21,753 votes to win this constituency. Rita Bahuguna Joshi, the winning Congress candidate, got 63,052 votes. The nearest contender was Suresh Chandra Tiwari of the BJP who got 41,299 votes. The voter turnout was 50.56 %.
The ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) in Uttar Pradesh had in 2012 won 224 seats spread across 75 districts. It has tied-up with Congress this time in the contest against BJP and BSP.
Elections to 403 seats of Uttar Pradesh were held over 7 phases from February 4 to March 8.
Exit polls had predicted the BJP emerging first in Uttar Pradesh with the Samajwadi Party- Congress alliance emerging second and Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party emerging a distant third.
