New Delhi: Taking an unusually long time to take a decision over its Lok Sabha candidates, Congress party is likely to release its fourth list for the polls on either Thursday or Friday.
Party sources say that a list of candidates has been short listed and a decision can be made at the central election committee meeting which is scheduled to take place on Thursday. As per sources, deliberations are still on there and there is still no clarity on whether the party will announce the candidate for the Varanasi seat in the fourth list.
Congress is also likely to field Captain Amrinder Singh against senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley from Amritsar. As per sources, the party believes that being the former chief minister, Captain Singh stands a strong chance of winning against Jaitley.
This even as Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari on Wednesday, expressed his willingness to contest the polls.
Congress sources said he might have been unwell earlier but he had never refused to contest in the first place. Congress President Sonia Gandhi is believed to have been upset with a few senior party leaders who were unwilling to contest.
Tewari was reportedly not keen on contesting from Ludhiana and was eyeing the Chandigarh seat. The Congress has, however, given Chandigarh ticket to former Railways Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal.
