New Delhi: Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday hinted at working with the Left parties in the post-poll scenario, expressing confidence that the Communists would accept Manmohan Singh as Prime Minister and a Congress-led Government.
At a press conference in the Capital, he was, however, sure that the Congress would form a Government. "But in a democracy, if it so happens, we have no choice," he said in reply to a question whether Congress would sit in the Opposition.
However, senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha said that Rahul Gandhi is in damage control mode after Congress leader Digvijay Singh, in an interview to CNN-IBN, had reflected the uncertainty in the Congress by saying the party doesn't mind sitting in the Opposition.
“Rahul's statements were to set things in order after what Digvijay Singh has had to say. He had said that the Congress was sure that they will not get majority,” Sinha said.
Meanwhile, CPI General Secretary AB Bardhan said the Left will not oblige Rahul.
“They (Congress) are nervous about the fact that they will not have numbers. I don't think Left will oblige them this time. Left will not support a Congress or Congress-led government at the Centre,” Bardhan said.
