Thiruvananathapuram: Kerala Assembly was adjourned on Tuesday after members of the ruling CPI(M)-led LDF and Opposition Congress-led UDF created a tumult over the functioning of Bhutan lotteries.
Speaker K Radhakrishnan adjourned the House for the day after going through other business when the first adjournment for an hour failed to pacify the treasury and opposition benches which continued their outburst in the House.
Trouble began when Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan, in his reply to a submission of V D Sateeshan of Congress on the lottery issue, made some critical references to the ice cream parlour sex scam and Edamalayar graft cases allegedly involving UDF leaders P K Kuhnalikutty and K Balakrishna Pillai.
Opposition members objected to Achuthudanan's reference to other cases and said the Chief Minister was deviating from the subject of submission.
However, Achuthanandan maintained that during his submission, Sateeshan had stated certain things other than the lottery issue and he had to reply to the allegations.
Opposition members disrupted the Chief Minister's speech and entered the well of the House several times.
During his speech, Achuthanandan challenged opposition leader Oommen Chandy and KPCC President Ramesh Chennithala to prove their allegations that an 'agent' was working for the Chief Minister in Delhi to deal with Supreme Court cases.
Achuthanandan said it was a serious allegation and the apex court and Centre should take note of it and hold inquiry.
Sateeshan alleged that the CBI probe into the Bhutan lottery case was 'scuttled' by interference of Achuthanandan's son Arun Kumar.
Achuthanandan said it was the Centre that was trying to protect the lottery mafia as Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi appeared for Bhutan lottery operator in Kerala High Court.
