Jayalalithaa welcomes SC order on 2G issue
The Tamil Nadu CM was non committal on the Opposition's demand for Home Minister P Chidambaram's resignation.

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Thursday welcomed the Supreme Court verdict on the 2G scam case but was non committal on the Opposition's demand for Home Minister P Chidambaram's resignation 'at this stage'.

"It is a welcome step. I prefer to see what happens in the special court," she told reporters in her reaction to the Supreme Court cancelling 122 2G licences granted during the tenure of former telecom minister A Raja and blaming the government's flawed first-come-first served policy.

On the UPA government backing Chidambaram, into whose alleged role in the 2G issue a CBI probe was sought by Janata Party President Subramanian Swamy in the apex court, she said irrespective of what the Centre might say "it is for the court to announce the final verdict".

Asked about the opposition call for resignation of Chidambaram in the wake of the Supreme Court judgement, she said, "I would not like to say anything more at this stage."
