If there's a Modi wave in India, why does he need a 'safe seat', asks Sibal
On Thursday, a BJP spokesperson announced that Narendra Modi will contest the elections from Gujarat.

New Delhi: Union minister Kapil Sibal was in an unforgiving mood today. He hauled the Bharatiya Janata Party on a range of issues including dynasty politics and the seat-hunting for its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

"Am curious, if there's a strong Modi wave, how come he needs a 'safe seat'? If he's so sure of Muslim support, why not stand from Azamgarh?" Sibal tweeted, referring to the row over finding the perfect seat for Modi for the coming Lok Sabha elections.

A BJP Central Election Committee meet recently failed to arrive at a consensus over Varanasi as a probable seat for Modi. Varanasi is senior party leader MM Joshi's constituency. Reports suggest that Joshi was unhappy over the decision and reluctant to let go. The BJP top leadership was keen to send him off to Kanpur. Joshi, however, stood his ground.

On Thursday, a BJP spokesperson announced that Modi will contest the elections from Gujarat. "Most BJP workers want Modi to contest from Vadodara, Ahmedabad or Surat. So definitely Modi will fight from Gujarat," spokesperson Vijay Rupani said.

A formal announcement from the party, however, still remains.
