Govt not trying to break Team Anna: Khurshid
Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid said that the government was committed to the Lokpal bill.

New Delhi: Even as cracks appear in Team Anna after attacks on its members are carried out, the UPA government has reiterated its commitment to the Lokpal Bill.

Speaking exclusively to IBN18 Editor-in-chief Rajdeep Sardesai, Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid said that the government was committed to the bill.

He further stressed that the government was not trying to break Team Anna.

This came hours after the attack on key Team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal.

Khurshid had, reacting to the attack, said that there was no place for violence in a democracy and that if anyone felt the need for protection they could seek it.

The attack was slammed by Team Anna as well as other political parties.

Anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare expressed his anger writing on a piece of paper.

It said, "It is very unfortunate... We are ready to face not only slippers, but even bullets... I will go to Lucknow to spread awareness."

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also slammed the attack, terming it as "most unfortunate" saying such acts were against the basic tenets of democracy.
