It is a final pitch for the two-leaves symbol as the Election Commission is all set to hear both the OPS camp and the Sasikala camp on Wednesday. The two groups have again claimed that they are the ‘real’AIADMK. The buzz is that EC may freeze the two-leaves symbol and will make an announcement on its decision come Wednesday. Remember, filing of nominations for the by-polls will end on March 23. Both sides are confident that Election Commission’s decision will be in their favour.
Speaking to CNN News 18, Sasikala nephew,TTV Dinakaran said, “We have the majority of General Council and a support of more than 90% of the general council members and executive council members and 122 MLAs and 37 MPs support. We will win in that hearing and I will contest only in two-leaves symbol as my symbol.” When asked what is the plan if EC freezes the AIADMK symbol, he said, “There will not be anything like that. I will contest only in two-leaves symbol.”
The OPS camp is confident they will stake claim of the two-leaves symbol. O. Panneerselvam had earlier told CNN News 18, “We have put forth our views to the Election Commission. We are sure their decision will be in our favour. We are confident and we don’t have to look for a Plan-B.”
On Tuesday, O. Panneerselvam camp submitted 6,000 affidavits consisting of more than 40 lakh signatures from party cadre before the Election Commission claiming that every party cadre extends support to O. Panneerselvam.
While the fight to Amma’s legacy has intensified, TTV Dinakaran is confident of winning the RK Nagar by-polls with a huge margin. “There may be more contestants for RK Nagar by-polls but the fight will be between AIADMK and DMK.” While in reality, the pulse of the RK Nagar residents is against the ruling AIADMK, Dinakaran is on a denial. “I have visited there once, from 23rd onwards I will campaign. Already our party people have gone there and told me how it was in 2016 and 2015 when our leader contested it is the same. We are getting positive response and we are getting the same support which was given to our honourable leader.”
OPS camp has also told the Election Commission that Dinakaran has FERA cases pending against him and that he cannot be a contender. Dinakaran said these cases have been [ending against him since late 90s and he had earlier contested in 1999 and 2004. He added that the case against him cannot stop him from contesting a by-poll. Now, all eyes on Wednesday as the state will know if either of these camps can carry forward Amma’s legacy.
