Edappadi has won the vote of confidence, minutes after DMK Working President MK Stalin told media that his party members were beaten up and forcefully evicted from the house. Palaniswami garnered 122 yes votes, while members voted against him.
Earlier, while showing his torn shirt, Stalin told media, "We repeatedly appealed to the speaker for a secret ballot, but he refused to address our plea."
DMK also submitted a letter to Tamil Nadu Assembly Secretary AMP Jamaludeen for a No-Confidence Motion against Speaker P Dhanapal.
"During the session on February 18, the Speaker acted with ulterior motives. On that basis, given that there is no confidence on him, we have submitted the letter seeking a No-Confidence Motion against him," Stalin had said.
AIDMK Spokesperson Panruti S. Ramachandran, said, "DMK had inconsistent stand on vote of confidence. They wanted to defeat the government and they are trying to create false propaganda on what happened at the Assembly. DMK MLAs raised demand in secret ballot. Even in parliament or assembly there is no secret ballot followed. Only during election this norm is generally followed. DMK obstructed the proceedings of the house and that is why speaker has to evict them."
Meanwhile, DMK's petition challenging Tamil Nadu CM's trust vote was adjourned by Madras High Court till Monday. The HC has asked petitioners to submit video of ruckus in TN Assembly
A massive security arrangement has been put in place across Tamil Nadu to prevent any untoward incidents.
