CPM manipulated EVMs in Tripura Assembly polls: Cong

Agartala: Opposition Congress in Tripura on Thursday claimed that people's verdict was not reflected in the result of the February 14 Assembly elections as the ruling CPM had manipulated the EVMs.

"It is not the people's verdict because the CPM managed to manipulate the EVMs during the elections with the help of the administration," Tripura Pradesh Congress President (TPCC), Sudip Roy Burman told reporters.

The Left Front secured 50 seats in the 60-member Assembly to return to power for the fifth time in a row while the Congress managed to get only 10 seats.

Two days after the TPCC reviewed the election results on Tuesday, Burman claimed the EVMs used in the state were earlier used in Assam in 2011 and those machines might have been tampered with at that time.

Burman said a case was pending in the Supreme Court regarding manipulation of those EVMs used in Assam. "How those machines can be used during the Tripura election when a case was pending in the Supreme Court?" he asked.

He said the party was consulting the matter with qualified engineers and contemplating moving court.
