Counting for Andhra Pradesh bypolls today
The bypolls in five seats in Telangana region were necessitated due to the resignation of sitting MLAs in support of separate statehood demand, while the sitting member died in Mahabubnagar.

Hyderabad: The counting of votes for the bypolls to seven Assembly constituencies in Andhra Pradesh would be taken up on Wednesday.

Elaborate administrative and security arrangements have been made for the counting of votes, state Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwar Lal told reporters here today.

EVMs were used in the elections for which polling was held on March 18.

The counting process would begin at 8 am and the results are expected to be out by afternoon.

Six out of seven Assembly segments are in Telangana region, while one seat (Kovur) is in coastal Andhra region.

The bypolls in five seats in Telangana region were necessitated due to the resignation of sitting MLAs in support of separate statehood demand, while the sitting member died in Mahabubnagar.

In Kovur, the sitting TDP MLA quit in support of Kadapa MP YS Jagan Mohan Reddy which necessitated the bypolls.
