New Delhi: CNN- IBN, India’s best English news channel is also the No 1 news channel in the genre ahead of Times Now and NDTV 24x7 on the second polling day of General Elections '09 (Source TAM). The second phase of polls was also the biggest phase of polling that saw about 19.5 crore voters exercise their franchise.
The second phase of polls witnessed Indians voting for 141 Parliamentary seats involving 13 States and 19.5 crore voters. 2,041 candidates were contesting this phase across 2,23,320 polling booths using 2,80,838 electronic voting machines.
This phase of polling also saw voting for 140 Assembly seats in Andhra Pradesh and 77 Assembly seats in Orissa.
The second phase is by far the largest phase of polling during the five phase polling schedule. CNN-IBN topped the ratings during this phase of polls reinforcing the choice of a billion Indians.
CNN-IBN is also the No 1 choice on the day amongst the affluent audience and in the six metros (Source: TAM).
A look at the market share also shows a skew in favor of CNN-IBN, with the market share of CNN-IBN showing a 6 per cent increase in the 17th week over the 16th week in 2009, while the market share of NDTV 24x7 shows a 3 per cent drop and a drop of 5 per cent in case of Times Now.
