New Delhi: Questioning Home Minister P Chidambaram's silence on his role in the 2G spectrum allocation, BJP on Tuesday said he has lot to "answer" on the issue which has caused "revenue loss to the nation".
BJP leader Arun Jaitley also took a dig at the Congress, saying its leadership was trying to find a "patchwork" solution to the "crisis" created in the party by the March 25 note of the Finance Ministry and that its infighting "does not answer" as to who is responsible for the loss.
He said the Finance Ministry note to the PMO, which has generated controversy as it says that Chidambaram as Finance Minister in 2008 should have insisted on auctioning of 2G spectrum, is the "factual recording" of all that happened in the matter.
The Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha alleged that Chidambaram has changed his position on the allocation of 2G spectrum and demanded answers as to why he did it.
"Chidambaram has gone into a silent mode, it would be better if he answers all these issues otherwise the presumptions are against him," he said.
"The issue of Finance ministry's note in relation to 2G and the issues that it has thrown up is not an internal matter of the Congress party...
"It would be better if the Congress party and its spokesmen answer the questions raised on the contents of the document, namely that loss has been caused to public revenue by allotting Spectrum in 2008 at the 2001 prices," he said.
He also alleged that CBI was "bending backwards" on the role of Chidambaram in the 2G spectrum allocation issue, which said was a "disturbing trend".
