Raipur: It is not uncommon to have two candidates of different political parties with the same name. But it rarely happens that almost a dozen candidates with the same name jump into the poll fray from the same seat. When it happens, the matter also becomes a little fishy.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Chandulal Sahu, who is contesting against former chief minister Ajit Jogi of the Congress from Mahasamund in Chhattisgarh, is facing 10 candidates with the same name. 10 independent candidates with the same name Chandulal Sahu have filed nomination for the Lok Sabha election from Mahasamund.
The BJP is alleging that it is the handiwork of Ajit Jogi. The BJP had lodged a complaint with the Election Commission, demanding the rejection of nomination of all the other Chandulal Sahus. The party has also asked the Election Commission to investigate the matter and to cancel the nomination of Congress candidate Ajit Jogi if he is found guilty.
BJP leaders allege that all the other 10 candidates filed the nomination on the same day and after the last day of withdrawal of nomination, all of them went underground. They said that even the series of bank notes deposited with the authorities as election deposit was the same.
Mahasamund will vote on April 17.
