Central funds eaten up by Mayawati: Rahul
Rahul slammed all opposition parties and promised all-round development of the state if Congress was voted to power.

Hamirpur: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday fired a fresh salvo at Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, saying funds sent by the Centre for development of the state were "eaten up" by her government.

"Whatever money is being sent from the Centre, the magic elephant in Lucknow eats it up. It never reaches the beneficiaries," he told a rally at Sumerpur in Hamirpur Assembly constituency.

Elephant is the election symbol of the ruling BSP.

Rahul slammed all opposition parties and promised all-round development of the state if Congress was voted to power.

He said it was only the Congress that had reached Bundelkhand region and tried to feel the problems of the people here.

Rahul also said his party would ensure that youths did not go out of the state for jobs.

The Congress leader spoke at length about central schemes like MGNREGS and told the people how it has helped in securing employment.

Meanwhile, BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak told reporters in Lucknow that Rahul's statement on the loot of Bundelkhand package was nothing more than politics on the helplessness of the people of Uttar Pradesh's most backward region.

"If Rahul knew this then he must tell people what steps Congress-led UPA government took to check this loot and why BSP government was allowed to plunder the package amount for four-and-a-half years," Pathak said.
