DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran once again triggered a row over his “jobless barber” remark on the BJP IT cell. The DMK MP on Sunday compared the BJP’s IT wing to a “jobless barber” saying its members were spreading old videos as they had nothing better to do.
“There is an adage in Tamil which says that when a barber does not have a job he will shave a cat. Similarly, the BJP IT wing does not have anything useful to do and hence it is spreading my old videos,” Maran said.
BJP leaders slammed Maran for calling “people spreading and reacting to his rants on a jobless barber”.
Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai reacted to the DMK MP’s statement and said degrading someone by profession or language seems to be the only thing DMK MP Thiru Dayanidhi Maran excels in.
“Instead of apologising, Thiru Dayanidhi Maran calls those spreading and reacting to his rants on our North Indian Brothers and Sisters the work of a “Jobless Barber”. With this constant degrading, it is only evident that even the continuous taste of electoral defeat doesn’t seem to shake the resolve of the leaders in the I.N.D.I. Alliance,” Annamalai wrote in an X post.
BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla said Maran’s remark displays his “elitist and casteist mindset”.
“DMK at it again. After insulting Sanatan, Hindu Dharma & North Indians, and Hindi now Maran insults barbers & displays his elitist & casteist mindset. Instead of apologising, Dayanidhi Maran calls those spreading & reacting to his rants on North Indian Brothers and Sisters the work of a “Jobless Barber”. Rahul Baba is busy doing photo ops with kisan, mechanics etc Will he say if this statement is part of “Mohabbat ki Dukaan”?” an X post by the BJP leader said.
Last week, the DMK MP had drawn criticism saying that Hindi speakers from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar migrate to Tamil Nadu to engage themselves in construction work and cleaning of toilets.
