Body blow: BSP men join BJP in Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal: Amid preparations for the General Elections, the Bahujan Samaj Party sustained a body blow on Wednesday when two of its former Madhya Pradesh unit presidents -- both Dalits -- joined the BJP.

Phool Singh Baraiya -- who held BSP reins for many years in this state and was presently associated with Union Steel, Chemicals and Fertiliser Minister Ram Vilas Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) -- and Bhujbal Singh Ahirwar, entered saffron party ranks at different functions in Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's presence.

In the Assembly polls conducted last year, Baraiya unsuccessfully contested two constituencies under the LJP banner. Political observers feel that the BSP and LJP might sustain heavy losses owing to Baraiya's latest move.

Ahirwar had to bow out of the state chief's post about a year back and he unsuccessfully contested the Berasia Assembly constituency. Analysts said the BJP will resultantly benefit in Gwalior division from where state president Narendra Singh Tomar is trying his poll fortunes -- at Morena.
