BJP Flies Its Amethi 'Warriors' to Gujarat Battlefield to Show Off UP Civic Polls Win
BJP chief Amit Shah has instructed the party’s newly elected mayors from Uttar Pradesh, including the town area and municipality chairperson of Amethi, to make a trip to Gujarat.

Lucknow: As the electoral battle for Gujarat heats up, the BJP intends to embarrass soon-to-be-Congress chief Rahul Gandhi by showcasing his party’s civic poll loss in his Lok Sabha constituency Amethi.

BJP chief Amit Shah has instructed the party’s newly elected mayors from Uttar Pradesh, including the town area and municipality chairperson of Amethi, to make a trip to Gujarat.

Confirming the move, BJP's state general secretary Vijay Bahadur Pathak said, “The fact that the Congress performed badly in Uttar Pradesh, including Amethi, is proof that citizens of the country stand firmly with the BJP. Congress campaign on issues of GST and development have no takers even in Amethi.”

“There is a strong presence of people from Uttar Pradesh in Gujarat. Our workers there (in Gujarat) want to welcome the newly elected representatives from Uttar Pradesh,” Pathak added.

Elected mayors, including the party's Amethi winner Chandrama Devi and Jayas Nagar Palika chairman Mahesh Pratap will accompany Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to Gujarat. They will campaign in the state for a few days and will also be felicitated at some public meetings, sources said.

Before heading to Gujarat, they will also meet PM Narendra Modi for tea on Tuesday evening.

The Congress has dismissed the BJP’s latest election tactic as sign of the saffron party’s “increasing nervousness”.

“Our party didn’t contest Amethi and Jayas seats. This is because the party didn't want to get into small-level political battles in the region. BJP’s claims of the Congress losing Amethi is, therefore, a lie,” said Congress MLC Deepak Singh.

“The people of Amethi are with the Congress and Rahul Gandhi. In 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Rahulji will win by a margin of at least 4 lakh votes.”
