Shiromani Akali Dal MP and Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal has stirred a hornet's nest ahead of Punjab Assembly elections. Harsimrat has demanded that files related to Operation Blue Star including the audio recordings of the case should be declassified.
Alleging that the files contain evidence against Congress leader Jagdish Tytler, she said, "The roles of Congress leaders Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar should be re-investigated." She also claimed that "facts were concealed" about the attack on Sri Darbar Sahib during the Operation Blue Star.
The Food Processing Minister said the files related to the events and direction issued which led to tanks and cannons being used in the precincts of the Sikh holy place be made public so that people know the truth behind the episode.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy, too, had demanded declassification of the files to bring out the truth behind allowing Army into the Golden Temple in Amritsar.
He reportedly termed the 1984 Operation Bluestar "foolishness on the part of then prime minister Indira Gandhi".
