This General Assembly constituency has an estimated Scheduled Caste population of 21% and an estimated Scheduled Tribe population of 0%, according to the report of the Delimitation Commission, 2008. In 2012, Bibi Jagir Kaur of SAD emerged victorious in this seat beating Sukhpal Singh of INC by a margin of 7,005 votes which was 7.28% of the total votes polled in the constituency. SAD had a vote share of 51.35% in the seat.
