New Delhi: BJP leader Varun Gandhi on Tuesday hit out at cousin sister Priyanka for calling him a "Gandhi who had lost his way". "I have never crossed the lakshman rekha of decency whether it is my family or any senior member of any political party in my speeches. It is my request to all that instead of personal attacks, we debate unemployment, corruption, poverty and illiteracy," he said.

Varun filed his nomination papers from Sultanpur in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday.

At a meeting of Congress party workers in Sultanpur on Monday, Priyanka said that Varun had been led astray and that it was Sultanpur's duty to vote him out.

"My inherent decency and large-heartedness should not be construed as weakness by anyone," Varun retorted today. "If India has to move towards the politics of hope, we will have to raise the level of debate," he said.
