Bangalore: Two reporters of Kannada TV news channel TV9 have been arrested for trying to 'sting' Karnataka Power minister DK Shivakumar. The incident took place when the reporters posed as the representative of a London based power Company while meeting Shivakumar and tried to bribe him.
They had requested for a government approval to open their office in Bangalore. But Shivakumar refused the permission saying that election code conduct won't allow him to sign any paper.
Suspicious over their motives, Shivakumar alerted the police which arrested them. The police caught the journalists red-handed and charged them with bribery. Shivakumar has claimed that the channel was trying to blackmail him for money.
A court has sent them to judicial custody. The police have named a top executive of the channel as one of the accused in the case. According to sources, he has applied for an anticipatory bail.
Meanwhile, some journalists in Karnataka are opposed to the arrest of the two reporters.
