Riding on Rassie van der Dussen’s 76* and Gerald Coetzee’s four-fer South Africa registered a comfortable 5-wicket win over Afghanistan in the ODI World Cup match on Friday. The Proteas got back to the winning ways after losing to India at Eden Gardens on November 5.
The Proteas bowlers produced a collective effort to restrict the Afghans to just 244, while Coetzee was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets for 44.
South Africa, who are already assured of a place in the semifinals, completed the task with Van der Dussen remaining unbeaten on 76 off 95 balls.

Quinton de Kock also scored 41 runs and managed to get past Rachin Ravindra in the most run tally. De Kock has now scored 591 runs in 9 matches which includes three centuries. Rachin Ravindra is right behind De Kock with 565 runs, he has been the most promising young talent in the World Cup this year. India batting maestro Virat Kohli is placed at third spot with 543 runs and he will also look to get ahead in the race when India will play the Netherlands on Sunday. Australia’s David Warner and India’s Rohit Sharm are in the fourth and fifth spots with 446 and 442 runs respectively.

Sri Lanka’s Dilshan Madushanka retained the top spot with 21 wickets in his kitty. Australia leg-spinner Adam Zampa has claimed 20 wickets and but he still has to play at least two more matches in the tournament, which gives him an advantage to move back to the top. Proteas all-rounder Coetze sits at the third spot with 18 wickets in 7 matches while his teammate and left-arm pacer Marco Jansen is placed at the fourth spot with 17 scalps under his kitty, while star India pacer Mohammed Shami is at fifth with 16 wickets in just 4 matches. New Zealand’s Mitchell Santner has also claimed 16 wickets and placed at sixth position.
