Defending champions Chennai Super Kings released the list of retained players on Sunday. As expected, the defending champions have kept their core team intact with legendary MS Dhoni leading from the front with the support of the likes of star Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, English rounder Moeen Ali, young batter Ruturaj Gaikwad and New Zealand batter Devon Conway.

In what comes as a major announcement, the franchise has decided to part ways with star English all-rounder Ben Stokes who was roped in for a whopping sum of Rs 16.25 crore. Joining him on the list of released players are Kyle Jamieson, Sisanda Magala, Bhagath Varma, Shubranshu Senapati, Akash Singh, and Ambati Rayudu, who had announced his retirement earlier this year.
The list of retained players brings great news for the CSK fans as they are set to witness Dhoni taking the field for yet another season. After winning the IPL 2023 final against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad, Dhoni had said he would take a call on his future with CSK after assessing his fitness.
“The amount of love and affection I have been shown wherever I have been this year, the easy thing would be for me to say ‘Thank you very much’, but the tough thing for me is to work hard for another 9 months and come back and play at least 1 more season of IPL. A lot depends on the body, I have 6-7 months to decide. It will be more like a gift from my side, it’s not easy for me but that’s a gift. The way they’ve shown their love and affection, I think that’s something I need to do for them,” Dhoni had said after the final.
The CSK have had a superb run in IPL 2023. Unlike the last edition of the tournament, they finished among the top four in the league stage and defeated Gujarat Titans to make it to the final. The two teams met again in a rain-affected final where Jadeja played a memorable knock to ensure a record equalling 5th title for his team.
