From winning their record-extending sixth ODI World Cup title to becoming the World Test champions, the Aussies showcased a brilliant series of performances in 2023. Australia, under the leadership of Pat Cummins, succeeded in retaining the Ashes as well. Australia’s dominance can be understood by merely having a look at the list of top run-getters in Tests this year. Four of the top five batters, on this list, are from Australia.

Usman Khawaja

It has certainly been a remarkable year for Usman Khawaja. The Aussie opener has become the highest run of scorer in Tests in 2023. Khawaja scored 1210 runs at an average of 52.60 in 13 Tests this year. The southpaw notched three centuries and six half-centuries.

Steve Smith

With 929 runs under his belt, Australia’s Steve Smith is the second-highest scorer of the year in the longest format of the game. Smith recorded an impressive average of 42.22 in 13 Tests in 2023. Overall, the former Australia captain notched three centuries and as many half-centuries.

Travis Head

Australia’s World Cup hero Travis Head comes next having claimed 919 Test runs this year. Head registered an impressive average of 41.77 in Tests in 2023. Head scored one century and five Test half-centuries. His solitary Test century of 2023 came against India during the World Test Championship final at The Oval.

Marnus Labuschagne

Marnus Labuschagne, a quintessential Test batter, scored 803 in 2023. Labuschagne scored those runs in 13 Tests with one century and four half-centuries to his name.

Joe Root

Joe Root had another superb year. England’s premier Test batter scored 787 runs at a mind-boggling average of 65.58 this year.

Harry Brook

Joe Root’s teammate Harry Brookcnotched 701 Test runs at an average of 53.92 in 2023. Having made his Test debut in 2022, Brook has already scored four centuries and seven half-centuries.

Kane Williamson

New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson is the seventh-highest Test scorer of the year having accumulated 695 runs from seven games. Williamson registered an impressive average of 57.91.

Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli is the only Indian representative on this list. With 671 runs from eight matches, Kohli has become the eighth-highest Test scorer of 2023.

Ben Duckett

England’s Ben Duckett had a stellar Test outing with the bat in 2023. The southpaw scored 654 Test runs at an average of 46.71.

Dimuth Karunaratne

Sri Lanka’s Dimuth Karunaratne is the second Asian cricketer on this list. Karunaratne scored 608 runs in six Test matches.
