Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team dished out a clinical display as they defeated defending champions England by 100 runs to pick up their sixth consecutive win in the ODI World Cup 2023.
The skipper led from the front, smashing an 87-run knock on a tricky surface of the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Sunday, helping India to a fight-worthy total of 229/9 in fifty overs.
Suryakumar Yadav smashed 49 in 47 balls, while KL Rahul also hit 39 in 58 balls, as his partnership with Rohit of 91 runs bailed out the Men in Blue when they were in deep trouble, having slumped to 40/3 after a shaky start.

England’s chase of 230 began with a steady partnership from Dawid Malan and Jonny Bairstow although Jasprit Bumrah turned up the heat when he got rid of Malan and Joe Root on back-to-back deliveries to jolt the defending champions.
Mohammed Shami then joined the party, getting the wickets of Ben Stokes on a duck, while Bairstow was dismissed on 14 as England slumped to 39/4.
Kuldeep Yadav got rid of Jos Buttler with arguably one of the best deliveries of the World Cup 2023 to leave the England captain bamboozled.
There was little resistance on offer from the rest of the batters as India cruised to their sixth consecutive win and reclaimed the top spot in the World Cup points table, virtually putting one foot in the semifinals.
India vs England Highlights
Earlier, Chris Woakes’ opening spell had the Indian batters in all kinds of trouble as Shubman Gill was dismissed on 9 while Virat Kohli registered his first career duck in 56 World Cup innings.
Rohit’s partnership with Rahul provided some relief before Suryakumar Yadav took on the mantle on himself after the Hitman was dismissed by Adil Rashid who claimed two wickets.
Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav applied the finishing touches on India’s total before Bumrah returned with the new ball and wreaked havoc to leave England’s top order shattered in tandem with Shami.
The Bengal pacer picked up a fifer in the previous game, and he chipped in with a four-fer in Lucknow, giving Rohit a welcomed headache about the playing XI spots once Hardik Pandya recovers from his ankle injury.
