The Bar Council of India (BCI) has extended the registration deadline for the All India Bar Examination (AIBE) 18 yet again. Earlier, the last date to apply was November 4 but now it has been extended to November 10. The last date for the payment of application fees is November 11. Candidates can apply for the exam on the official exam websites — allindiabarexamination.com, or barcouncilofindia.org.
The exam too has been postponed. It will now be held on December 3. The last date for correction of the application form is November 12. The admit cards for the AIBE 18 will be made available from November 25 to 30.
Initially, the application window was scheduled to close on October 9. The exam was earlier scheduled to be held on October 29 but later delayed to November 26. It has now once again been deferred.
AIBE is conducted for law graduates who want to become practising lawyers in India. The Bar Council of India (BCI) administers this exam to evaluate candidates’ understanding and abilities in the fundamental aspects of law and legal practice.
AIBE 18: How to Apply
Step 1: Go to allindiabarexamination.com.
Step 2: On the homepage search for the ‘AIBE XVIII Registration 2023’ link and tap on it.
Step 3: Register yourself.
Step 4: Fill in the form with the required details.
Step 5: Pay the application fees, and submit.
Step 6: Take a printout of the acknowledgment form for further use.
As per the official notice by BCI, candidates from the OBC or open category must achieve a minimum score of 45 per cent to qualify for the exam. For SC, ST, and specially-abled candidates, the passing score is set at 40 per cent. Individuals who pass AIBE 18 will be awarded a Certificate of Practice (COP) by the council which is necessary for practicing law in India.
Further, on the exam day, candidates need to make sure they carry a government-issued photo ID card, such as a voter ID card, passport, or Aadhaar card as without these they will not be allowed to appear for the exam. Candidates must also have their advocate enrolment ID from the state bar council with them to be able to enter the exam hall.
