The Heroes of Uttarakashi include the workers who were rescued from the Silkyara tunnel, the rat miners, DG NDRF teams that worked towards removing the debris and getting the trapped workers out, got the special mention at the CNN-News18 Indian of the Year 2023. And to make things even more special, Shah Rukh Khan joined them on stage to take a selfie with them. Among the heroes who received the award from MoS Jitendra Singh were National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Director General (DG) Atul Karwal, rat miners Munna and Wakil, foreman Gabbar Singh Negi and his colleague Saba Ahmed.
Wakil and Munna said they were overwhelmed with the support and honour, requesting for a selfie with actor Shah Rukh Khan, who readily obliged. On the IOTY stage, Wakil, one of the rat miners who got the award, got emotional and said that his children are crying having seen Shah Rukh Khan. He requested a selfie with the megastar that he obliged.
Shah Rukh Khan was awarded the Indian of The Year 2023 Award at the CNN-News18 Indian of the Year 2023. The actor was present at the prestigious awards show, accepting the award from the esteemed jury. This marked Shah Rukh Khan’s first-ever media appearance since 2019.
