Love is blooming in the Tollywood industry, with prominent figures like Parambrata Chatterjee-Piya Chakraborty, Sandipta Sen-Soumya Mukherjee, Darshana Banik-Saurav Das and Kanchan Mullick-Sreemoyee Chattoraj tying the knot in the past few months. Joining the list are renowned Bengali musicians Anupam Roy and Prashmita Paul, who are gearing up for their wedding on March 2 in Kolkata. The couple has not chosen for a grand wedding, instead they will have a legal wedding surrounded just by their families and close friends. Despite belonging from the same industry, Anupam and Prashmita’s love story officially began a year ago. Both of them share a common background in the industry and are recognised for their talents. For those not aware, Anupam was previously married to Piya, who recently tied the knot with actor Parambrata.
In a conversation with OTT Play, Anupam shared, “It is going to be an intimate wedding with just families and close friends on March 2.” While Prashmita added, “Neither of us wanted any loud affair. My friends and family members will be there. There will be relatives, who live outside Kolkata, will come over.”
Amid their wedding preparations, Prashmita Paul acknowledges the possibility of facing criticism for their choices. However, she highlights that as long as they are happy, trolling will not have a major or any impact on them. On the other hand, Anupam Roy is also excited and focused on a new beginning, rather than thinking about the past. “We know our near and dear ones will wish us well and that’s great,” Anupam added.
Anupam Roy was married twice in the past. Following his separation from his first wife, the singer composer married Piya Chakraborty in 2015. However, after six years of togetherness, Anupam and Piya announced their separation in 2021, sparking speculations about a third person’s involvement in their divorce.
In an earlier conversation about his separation with Piya, Anupam told ETimes, “My separation is the biggest loss in my life. I have my parents, my friends around. But to lose the most special person in my life is, by far, the biggest loss in the 39 years that I have lived so far. Soon after the announcement, people started calling me. No one was expecting this to happen. Many asked me ‘why’. Neither was it possible, nor was it practical for me to answer them. It is done and over, and I want to move on with my life. I cannot keep on enduring this pain.”
After their split, Piya was linked romantically with actor Parambrata Chatterjee, who went on to marry in November in 2023.
The marriage of Anupam Roy and Prashmita Paul is set to take place at a club in south Kolkata and the couple has opted for a registry wedding, indicating a simple and legal ceremony among their loved ones.
