Selena Gomez opened up about utilising her brand to assist fans in understanding their own struggles with mental health. She believes that it is a responsibility that she has taken on herself to influence others.

Selena Gomez has time and again amazed the audience with her singing and acting skills. However, the celebrity has not shied away from being open about her mental health struggles and other complications. Selena was diagnosed with Lupus and discovered she had bipolar disorder. Recently, Selena Gomez has opened up about utilising her brand to help fans understand their own struggles with mental health. She believes that it is a responsibility that she has taken on herself to influence others.

In an interview with Fast Company, Selena Gomez said, “When I was younger, I thought I could save the world. It breaks my heart to hear a girl come up to me and say: ‘I was so close to taking my life, but when I watched your documentary, I couldn’t imagine doing that anymore, that’s the coolest gift, but yeah, look at me… It’s crazy to have that responsibility.”

Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me, the documentary by her brand Rare Beauty released in 2022, provided an intimate look into the celebrities mental health accomplishments and struggles. As a celebrity, it is not easy to open up about your mental health issue, and Selena believes that it was even more difficult for her as she grew up being a “people pleaser.” But she has a responsibility at a very young age as many were looking up to her.

She mentioned, “I didn’t know who I was. Having that responsibility would make me walk on eggshells a lot. I thought maybe it would be damaging to tell people who I am. It started to become a threat that freaked me out. Well, if you’re not right, then you can’t work.”

However, Selena Gomez was determined to start a conversation around the struggles of those who suffer from mental health concerns. She stated, “ I wasn’t ashamed, and I wanted it to lead to something healing.” Selena added that due to her mental health issues she also takes break from social media and informs her fans about it as well.

Rare Beauty, her makeup line, has embraced her perspective on mental health since its inception three years ago. Reportedly, through the Rare Impact Fund, the singer has made it the company’s purpose to help a number of organisations working to remove mental health stigma.

Meanwhile, Selena Gomez was last seen in season 3 of Only Murders In The Building. As per the latest reports, the makers have now officially renewed it for a fourth season.
