Veteran Tamil Actor Venniradai Moorthy Retires From Acting. Here's Why

Venniradai Moorthy is one of the prominent comedians and artists in the Tamil film industry. With an illustrious career spanning many years, he has received accolades for his acting prowess in many films like Malai Sooda Va, Naanum Oru Thozhilaali, etc. Venniradai Moorthy’s wife Manimala is also a yesteryear actress and a character artist. Manimala has acted in many films including Sindhu Bhairavi directed by K Balachander, Anbulla Rajanikant directed by K Nataraj, etc. As informed to the users in IMDB, she last acted in the film Ricksha Mama starring Gautami, Goundamani and others. Since 1992, she has not acted in any film. She has a son named Manu. Actress Manimala is not to be confused with the late Odia actress Manimala Devi who died in 2016 after a prolonged illness.

Venniradai Moorthy and Manimala’s home in Kotturpuram, Chennai, is named Manas-Manu. In an earlier interview with The Hindu, Venniradai Moorthy said, “Manas is my grandson. Son Manu lives in Australia with his family.” When asked, “So it’s M all the way? the veteran actor had replied, “Yeah, we wanted it so.”

For a long time, Venniradai Moorthy entertained the audience with his humorous dialogues. However, now he has bid adieu to acting and revealed the reason behind it in an interview with the journalist Chithra Lakshmanan. According to the veteran actor, in his life, he needs adequate food, clothing and sleep the most. The Malai Sooda Va actor said that he had enough of the first two things and requires the third thing the most. So, the veteran actor said that he would not act in any film now despite being persuaded by many to not do so.

On the career front, Venniradai Moorthy last acted in the film Inba Twinkle Lilly directed by RK Vidhyadaran. This film is currently streaming now on Amazon Prime. Devadarshini Chetan, Manobala, Chithra Lakshmanan and others also acted in this film. Inba Twinkle Lilly was released at the cinemas on June 29, 2018, and received positive reviews from the audience. The audience lauded the film for combining comedy and action with a social message. Inba Twinkle Lilly, however, tanked at the box office.
