At one point, Jaya Prada faced a distressing period when her name was linked with Amar Singh inappropriately.

A Bollywood actress, who entered the industry under a different name, is currently making waves on social media for an old picture that’s going viral. Despite her unrecognisable appearance in the picture, she was famous for her beauty, talent, and powerful dance back in the day. Alongside her successful acting career, she ventured into politics and carved a notable reputation for herself in both arenas.

Jaya Prada, also known as Lalita Rani was born in Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh. She hailed from a family deeply rooted in the Telugu film industry with her father, Krishna Rao, serving as a film financier. Her mother, Neelaveni, fulfilled the role of a homemaker. During her childhood, Lalitha attended a Telugu medium school in Rajahmundry and participated in dance and music classes from a young age.

In the Telugu film Kosam, Jaya Prada captivated audiences with her mesmerising dance moves, garnering widespread acclaim. It was this performance that catapulted her to the spotlight and led to numerous offers in the film industry. Jaya Prada, originally named Lalita, initially won hearts with her dancing prowess, attracting a flurry of film offers. It was then that Lalita Rani decided to change her name to Jaya Prada.

Jaya Prada faced a distressing period when her name was linked with Amar Singh inappropriately. The situation left Jaya Prada deeply saddened, forcing her to contemplate ending her life.

The actress shared her painful experience of morphed pictures going viral while Amar Singh was undergoing dialysis. Speaking at the Queensline Literature Festival in Mumbai, she expressed her anguish, stating, “I was crying and saying I don’t want to live anymore, I want to commit suicide. I was going through that trauma and no one supported me”.

Jaya Prada entered the industry during a period when Sridevi was dominating Bollywood. Both actresses were often viewed as rivals due to their exceptional beauty and acting talents. Despite their perceived rivalry, they never developed a close bond or friendship with each other.

However, they did collaborate on several films. Producers were keen to cast them together, as their presence virtually guaranteed the success of the film. Some of the films they starred in include Tohfa, Mawaali, and Main Tera Dushman.
