Parineeti Chopra Regrets Post-Ishaqzaade Advice To Lose Weight And Embrace Glamour: 'My Biggest Mistake'
Parineeti Chopra recalled the kind of advice she had received related to her weight after her debut film became a huge success.

Bollywood actress Parineeti Chopra, who is enjoying the success of her recent film ‘Amar Singh Chamkila,’ reflected on the challenges she faced after the initial success of her debut film ‘Ishaqzaade.’ Parineeti shared that she fell into the trap of following trends, focusing mainly on commercial and glamorous roles. She revealed that there was pressure on her to lose weight and conform to the stereotypical image of a heroine post the success of ‘Ishaqzaade.’

During a conversation with Raj Shamani, Parineeti mentioned how she started her career as an authentic and raw actor, which garnered her respect and love from the audience. However, looking back, she considered the next few years as a mistake, as she veered off her original path.

Parineeti recalled, “The advice that was given to me was just lose weight, become glamorous, just do the typical heroine stuff. I was very excited to do it. I just heard it and I went down that path and I tried to be glam. I tried to do just commercial films, I tried to do films where I had two songs and a guest appearance and nothing more from it.”

She expressed regret over following the advice to chase big commercial projects and emulate the paths of other actresses. Parineeti acknowledged that her strength was in staying true to her unique style and the roles that resonated with her core audience, “So I wasted four to five years listening to this advice that just follows the commerce, just do big films, just do what other heroines are doing, you should also do that. That was my biggest mistake. I can’t follow anyone else’s career, I had to stick to what I had, what people had accepted me for,’ the actress added.

With projects like ‘Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar’ and ‘Amar Singh Chamkila,’ directed by Imtiaz Ali and featuring Diljit Dosanjh, she felt a sense of returning to her authentic self.

Parineeti was asked in the same interview if being Priyanka Chopra’s cousin helped her career. She recalled the low phase in her career and denied having any “unfair advantages”.

Parineeti expressed, “If being related to Priyanka Chopra could’ve helped my career, then I wouldn’t have had any flops in my career. I’ve seen such lows in the last 10 years.”

Parineeti addressed nepotism and said, “Every person who has had some association in the industry is actually under a lot of pressure. You might get your first chance, first audition, first meeting, but after that, you’re on your own and it’s more difficult to prove yourself. The comparisons will never end. So, what happens is, you can be a complete outsider, and it’s very difficult to survive. Or, you could be related to somebody and get that first meeting, but after that, your journey is your own,” she said. Parineeti added, “Nepotism may or may not be real, but favouritism is real.” The actress also mentioned that there are “camps” in Bollywood which she is not a part of and this has cost her some work.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Parineeti Chopra is currently seen in Amar Singh Chamkila. The film is directed by Imtiaz Ali and stars Diljit Dosanjh as the lead. The film is based on the life of the iconic Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila. Parineeti plays Amarjot in the film, who was Chamkila’s singing partner and second wife. The film is being received positively by the audience and the critics alike. Diljit and Parineeti’s performances received immense praise from viewers. The film is available to stream on Netflix.
