The Deol family is known for being true blue Punjabis and having an immense love for food. Recently, Bobby Deol appeared for an interview in which the actor shared that there was a time when he used to drink 7 to 8 glasses of milk every day. The actor said, “I used to drink a lot of milk- at least 7-8 glasses- every day. Now I understand why I used to have digestive problems,” he added.
Not only that but during a recent interview with Curly Tales, the actor confessed that he used to drink milk from a particular glass as a youngster. He said, “I used to always look for the tallest glass so that I could get more milk. I had a special glass that was gifted by my father (Dharmendra). So, I used to say, this is my glass,” said the actor, adding that now he drinks “may be one glass.”
But do you know what happens to the body when you drink 7-8 glasses of milk every day? Neelima Bisht, Chief Clinical Nutritionist, Department of Dietetics, Paras Health, Gurugram, shared that drinking 7-8 glasses of milk a day has different effects on children and adults.
Milk contains protein, which helps in bone growth and development. However, excessive consumption can lead to weight gain and digestive problems like lactose intolerance. Lactose is sugar in milk that is digested by the enzyme lactase. Around the age of five, most humans’ ability to digest lactase declines. This causes abdominal pain, gas, and diarrhoea. These symptoms significantly affect well-being in daily life.
However, adults can increase their risk of heart disease by consuming high-fat milk. Fat and saturated fat can cause health risks such as obesity. Drinking a lot of milk can also cause high sugar levels, leading to diabetes. Along with this, too much calcium can interfere with the absorption of other important minerals.
Most dairy cattle are injected with an injection that artificially speeds up milk production, stimulating rapid growth. One of these hormones, IGF-1, increases the multiplication of normal and abnormal cell division and causes various cancers and acne. Both children and adults should balance their diets to avoid nutritional imbalance. As per experts, one should choose low-fat or fat-free milk to reduce saturated fat levels. One should consider lactose-free options if intolerance is a problem.
