Angelina Jolie Recalls She 'Broke Down Crying' In Front Of Her Children On The Set Of Maria
Angelina Jolie praised her children for supporting her throughout the filming of Maria and admitted to crying in front of them during the process.

Angelina Jolie made a stunning appearance at the 2024 New York Film Festival with her children, Pax, Zahara and Maddox for the screening of her upcoming film Maria. During the event, she praised her children for providing support throughout the filming process. In an interview with Extra TV, she revealed that their encouragement helped calm her before stepping into the role of the legendary opera singer, Maria Callas. Despite working on numerous successful Hollywood projects, the Eternals star felt anxious about the role, in which she has lent her own voice for certain parts of the film. She also admitted to breaking down in front of her children during filming.

Angelina Jolie said, “You know, before you go out for these things, you’re nervous. They just said, ‘No matter what, Mum, good luck, and we know how hard you’ve worked, and we love you.’ You have that moment when the people who are with you tell you that, succeed or fail, they care about you. We all just said, ‘We’re going to have a good time tonight.’”

“My boys were with me on set, and they were in the AD department and the photography department. So, it was amazing to have them there. They don’t always see me work in this way because it was such a deeply emotional film that I didn’t realise at first. They saw me learn how to sing, they saw me practise, and they saw me nervous. They were there the first time I had to do it, and I was terrified, and they were there when I broke down crying. So, it was an interesting time for us to get closer in a different way,” Angelina Jolie added.

She further spoke about how her children encouraged her to sing. At first, they were proud of her effort rather than her singing ability. They understood how hard she was trying and wanted to support her. As Angelina Jolie’≈s practice progressed, their feedback changed as she improved. They witnessed her practising loudly at home, even when it might have been a little embarrassing for them. Despite the ups and downs, their support made her journey more special and enjoyable.

Directed by Pablo Larraín, Maria stars Angelina Jolie in the lead role. The film is scheduled for release in cinemas on November 27 and will stream on Netflix starting December 11.
