Steel and copper utensils are a staple in Indian households. Not only do they look good, but eating, drinking or cooking with copper utensils also has several health benefits. Drinking water from copper utensils is believed to be good for digestion and removes toxins from the body. Copper utensils help with iron absorption. Maintaining these utensils can be a tough job as they get tarnished with time and use. So, how can you keep them shiny and bright as new? For this, you will need to make a special powder at home which will instantly add a shine to the utensils and you will not have to shell out any money to buy this from the market. All you need are household items like flour (atta), salt, detergent powder, baking soda, citric acid, vinegar, water and food colour.

How to make this magical powder?

You need to add two teaspoons of salt, 5-6 teaspoons of detergent powder, and a small bowl of flour. Mix it all together in a large mixing bowl.

Add 2-3 teaspoons of baking soda, 4 teaspoons of citric acid and a pinch of food colour.

Now, add half a cup of vinegar to this mixture.

Add it in a mixer jar and mix them well.

Your magic powder to clean copper utensils is ready.

How to clean the vessels?

The first step is to clean the vessel with normal water, properly. Then, apply a thick layer of this powder on it with the help of the cloth. Keep it aside for 5-10 minutes and then rub the powder. Leave it again for about half an hour and then clean it with cool water. You will see your copper vessels shining brightly.

You can also try out lemon and salt paste by applying it to stubborn spots like the bottoms or edges of a pot. Make sure to leave this paste for half an hour and scrub in between. You can also swap lemon with vinegar, and it will surely get rid of the grime and tarnishing, leaving behind a lustrous surface.
