Pakistan wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan opted for a bizarre technique while opting for the DRS (decision review system) during their ICC ODI World Cup clash against Bangladesh on Tuesday. The event transpired in the 43rd over of Bangladesh’s innings when Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi bowled a length delivery to Taskin Ahmed, who swung his bat but could not connect.
Confused by the sound, Babar Azam appealed for a caught behind but the umpire was not convinced. The Pakistan captain sought Rizwan’s opinion, who supposedly had the best view of the occurrence. When the discussion was going on between the Pakistani players, Rizwan was seen asking Ahmed whether the ball had hit his bat or pad.
No DRS it's RRS Rizwan Rivew System…????????????Rizwan asking batsman if the ball hit the bat or pad before deciding to go for DRS. ????????????@iMRizwanPak @babarazam258#PakistanCricket #PAKVSBAN pic.twitter.com/WphGaAYw9g— Sadaqat Ali (@Rao_Sadaqat_234) November 1, 2023
The unexpected move by Mohammad Rizwan was caught on camera. The situation was so hilarious that it left the commentators in splits. Taskin Ahmed’s reply finally convinced Rizwan not to take the review.
Even Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi were left baffled after seeing the unique approach of Rizwan. The clip went viral with fans branding this DRS as the “Rizwan Review System.”

That's what being friendly on-field does to you. Rizwan was asking Taskin if he should take a DRS there. #PAKvsBAN pic.twitter.com/WSIWRBy7m8— Himanshu Pareek (@Sports_Himanshu) October 31, 2023
Coming in to bat first on a batting-friendly surface in Kolkata, Bangladesh failed to make the most out of the conditions. A lethal bowling show from the Pakistani pace unit demolished their top order. Except for Litton Das, Mahmudullah and Shakib Al Hasan, none of the Bangladeshi players managed to stay longer at the crease.
Bangladesh finally wrapped up their innings for 204 runs, losing all wickets in 45.1 overs. Afridi and Mohammad Wasim Jr picked three wickets each, while Haris Rauf got two under his belt.
In response, Pakistan made a blazing start to the chase, with both of their openers registering half-centuries. A 128-run partnership between Abdullah Shafique and Fakhar Zaman built the foundation for Pakistan to complete the chase with ease. Babar Azam, however, returned early to the pavilion.
Mohammad Rizwan and Iftikhar Ahmed remained unbeaten, helping Pakistan secure a commanding 7-wicket win. Fakhar Zaman was named the Player of the Match. The victory was quite crucial for Pakistan as it kept them in the knockout race.
