Woman succumbs to burns

A 38-year-old woman, who was working in a toy manufacturing unit died of burn injuries after the unit caught fire. The incident was reported near Gavipuram in Hanumanthanagar police station limits on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Dhanalakshmi. Police said that she was working at the unit run by one Sridevi.

Around 15 women were working in the unit that is located in the cellar of a building owned by Aloor Nagappa. It is said that toys and paper bundles were stored in the cellar.

“Around 3.30 pm, kerosene from a stove leaked over the floor and resulted in a fire that spread to the entire cellar as toys and paper bundles caught fire. The other women working there managed to escape but Dhanalakshmi’s saree caught fire and she was stuck inside the cellar. Five fire tender were rushed to the scene and the fire personnel doused the fire. Later, Dhanalakshmi was rushed to Victoria Hospital, where she succumbed to burn wounds,” the police explained.

However, the exact reason for the fire is not yet known. Hanumanthanagar police have registered a case of negligence against the unit owner.
