CHENNAI: A 23-year-old civil engineer committed suicide by hanging at her home at Valasarvakkam on Friday and police suspect that she could have taken the extreme step, as she could not find a government job.Radhika alias Rajeshwari was staying with her elder brother Rajesh (25)working in a private company at Irungattukottai. The woman, a native of Theni, had done small jobs like drawing plans for houses for neighbours and friends. She had been reportedly trying for a government job and had been seen dull for the past few days.On Friday, when her brother returned home from work, he found the door locked from inside and ept knocking. Finding no response, Rajesh peeped through a window and saw his sister hanging. Valasarvakkam police have registered a case and are investigating if the woman died out of frustration of not finding a government job or for any other reason.26-year-old Software Engineer missingA 26-year-old software engineer was reported missing at Secretariat Colony on Friday and his father lodged a complaint with the police reportedly claiming that his son’s lover could be the reason behind his disappearance. Police said Manish Sharma of Nammalwarpet, Secretariat Colony, was working as a software engineer at Kodambakkam. He had been in love with a girl from Raipur. Manish’s parents, who reportedly did not approve of his relationship with the girl, got him engaged to another girl. On Friday, he had gone to work and did not return. Manish’s father Gautam Chand had given a complaint that his son’s lover could have kidnapped him. Police are investigating the case. Chain snatchers heldThe city police on Friday arrested four chain snatchers at Semmenchery. The gang had snatched a chain from a man, two days ago. The four-member gang--Jagan (21), Shankar (20), Manikandan (20) and Gajendran alias Ganesan (20)--were nabbed when the Semmenchery police were on their night patrol. The gang reportedly attempted to flee after noticing police. The gang had snatched a chain from one Mohammad Sadiq of Muthamizhnagar, Thoraipakkam when the latter was returning home from work. Two held for assaultTwo men, who assaulted a hotel manager, were arrested at Guindy on Friday.Police arrested Mahesh Kumar (21) and Rajan (29) for assaulting a hotel manager Mohan (58) after the hotel did not have a dish the men had ordered. Police said the men, who came to a hotel at Little Mount on Friday evening, initially beat up a waiter and when the manager intervened, he was also assaulted.
