The Vellore District Administration has restored the drinking water connection to Palamathi within a few hours of the tribal villagers petitioning Collector Ajay Yadav in this regard on Friday.
Nearly 100 residents of Palamathi Village on Friday petitioned district administration demanding supply of drinking water. The villagers alleged that the newly elected panchayat president Ravi acted against them and disconnected the water supply to their village for not voting for him in the local body election.
Drinking water was being supplied from a well at Krishnavaram to Palamathi till three weeks ago. “The water was supplied to a sump at Chitteri village from Krishnavaram. From there, water was supplied to our village through a pipeline. But the Chitteri villagers locked the motor room and did not allow us to take water from their village,” said a 45 year-old Deivanai.
The panchayat president was not helping the residents of Palamathi as they voted against him in the local body election, she claimed after submitting the petition to the Collector. Taking immediate action, the district administration restored the water supply to Palamathi village.
“Before we returned to our village, the water supply was restored,” said Venkatesan.
