Water to be released from Nizamsagar by October 20

Major and minor irrigation minister P Sudarshan Reddy has assured the farmers that water would be released to the crops being cultivated under Nizamsagar, Alisagar and  Gutpa Lift Irrigation projects before October 20.

Speaking at the district irrigation advisory board meeting at ZP meeting hall here on Monday, the minister said water would be released from the projects as per the requirements.

The present water levels in Nizamsagar project was about 3.96 tmc ft of which 1.96 tmcft would be used for drinking water purpose and the remaining 2 tmcft water to be used for irrigation purpose, the minister said. He advised the irrigation officials not to use water to fill local tanks. They can fill the tanks only after irrigating the crops, he added.

He advised the irrigation authorities to fill all tanks and kuntas and ensure the supply of water till the tail end of project ayacut. About 42 lift irrigation schemes have been completed in the district and are irrigating about 56,411 acres. Siddapur, Bagguna, Kollur, Hegdoli, and other lift irrigation schemes are under progress. In Bodhan assembly constituency works on about five lift irrigation schemes at a cost of  Rs. 6.91 crore are in progress and when once these projects are completed, 7,484 acres will have irrigation facility, the minister said.

District collector Christina Z Chongthu, MLAs Mandava Venkateshwar Rao and Pocharam Srinivas Reddy,  Bodhan sub-collector Kartikeya Misra and others were present.
