Water tanker crushes woman, injures one

HYDERABAD: A military water tanker ran over a pedestrian and later rammed into a mechanic’s shed injuring one more at RTC Colony in Trimulgherry on Sunday.Three motorcycles were also damaged in the incident which, police suspect might have happened due to brake failure.The water tanker rammed into a pedestrian Ameena (38) of Karkhana, who was on her way to a nearby tiffin centre. The tanker dragged the woman into a nearby mechanic shed where it came to a halt. Ameena died instantly. The tanker was proceeding from Gun Rocks sub-station area to RTC colony. A worker in the shed, Naresh, also suffered injuries and was shifted to a nearby hospital where his condition is said to be critical. Three motorcycles also got crushed under the tanker.Police suspect the vehicle’s brakes might have failed which resulted in the tanker losing control and running over the woman.Meanwhile, mild tension prevailed in the locality with the locals trying to attack the tanker driver protesting against rash driving. However police reached the place and pacified the locals. Military officials also visited the place to ascertain the reason for the accident.On the complaint of the shed owner, Lakshman Rao, Trimulgherry police registered cases under sections 304-A (rash and negligent act leading to death) and 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) against the water tanker driver Bhagyanath Ram who was arrested.
